History

The Kazakh Medical University of Continuing Education was founded in August 1963, when the USSR Council of Ministers decided to establish the Almaty State Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education (ASIPME). By the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan in May 2014, the Institute was reorganized and renamed the Kazakh Medical University of Continuing Education.

For more than half a century, KazMUCE has been the coordinating center in the Republic of Kazakhstan for the postgraduate training of the highly qualified specialists and the continuous professional development of health care personnel for practical public health, medical science and education.

The pride of the university is the faculty, including the highly qualified specialists. Among them there are the laureates of the State Prize, Honored Scientists of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honored Doctors of the Republic of Kazakhstan, members of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign countries, and chief external experts of the Ministry of Public Health. More than 200 teachers have got various academic degrees, 65 of them are Doctors of sciences, 132 are Candidates of sciences, 55 employees have got an academic Master's degree. The faculty staff conducts the therapeutic and consultative clinical activities and provides the consultations for the most severe patients throughout the country.

In KazMUCE, there are more than 50 departments and courses that cover the entire education cycle: undergraduate and internship programs, residency, master’s program, doctoral studies and supplementary education. Every year about 1,500 students are admitted and over 10,000 specialists from all regions complete the advanced training.

In 2018, the university opened its doors to undergraduate and internship students. The students complete their education on 5 specialties: “General medicine”, “Stomatology”, “Public health”, “Nursing”, “Pharmacy”, internship students - on two specialties: “General medicine” and “Stomatology”. General medicine internship includes "Obstetrics and Gynecology", "Surgical Diseases", "Internal Diseases", "General Medical Practice", "Pediatrics". In the master’s and doctoral studies the educational programs are realized on 4 specialties: "Medicine", "Public Health "," Medical and prophylactic business ", "Nursing", in the residency -on 29 specialties. The advanced training and retraining of health care personnel is carried out on 65 specialties.

Since 2017, the university has been implementing a joint two-diploma Kazakh-Finnish master’s program on the specialty "Nursing" with a two-year course of study. Under the program of academic mobility, undergraduates at KazMUCE study at the universities of the applied sciences as JAMK, HAMK and LAHT in Finland.

Programs of integrated training cycles with the involvement of the highly professional Kazakhstani and foreign specialists have been developed and implemented; update laboratories on emergency conditions are being opened.

KazMUCE is the first medical university in Kazakhstan where the innovative model of medical education and the improvement of the medical services quality through telemedicine - the ECHO project has been introduced. This project is being realized in more than 15 countries of the world. For implementing this project, KazMUCE organized the Training Center for clinical coaching and advanced training of medical personnel through tele-communication technologies.

The activity of the University in the field of international cooperation is one of the important directions in the development of the university. KazMUCE maintains business relationship with 40 universities and research centers from 20 countries of the world.

To ensure the direct connection of the educational process with practical activities, 107 clinical bases of the university with the update high-tech equipment, including its own dental clinic have been identified. All of them are located at the bases of the main medical institutions in Almaty, Republican Scientific Centers and institutes of different levels.

For improving the quality of practical training of medical specialists on the base of KazMUCE, a Practical Skills Center has been created, where the improvement of clinical skills with the use of simulation training on high-tech modern simulators, mannequins and virtual simulators has been provided. For foreign non-resident students, the university has got a six-story dormitory for more than 700 places, a library, where there are more than 60,000 copies of books.

Here the readers can use not only Kazakhstan, but also international information resources. There is an electronic catalog in the library, where the most popular books of educational and scientific literature as unique collections of dissertations, update full-text materials on current problems in various fields of medicine are collected.

The information technology has been actively introduced into the educational process of the university. For innovative methods of providing the educational process, 7 automated information systems have been installed. Their use allows us to increase the management efficacy in various areas of the university, as well as it contributes to the effective and optimal educational process. The systems enable to ensure testing, webinars via audio-video communications and more.
